Snacky~i love it.

 Hello Guys!Here we go again~
Once again, lets start our journey to CHIAK lol!!
First of all, who knows what food hunters want to introduce now?
 Here's the hint, lets guess!

"This tree is not only a tree.
It is a special tree.
That is always watching over you.
This tree is not only a tree.
It is a magical tree.
That feeds you and feeds you.
Thirst is quenched, nerves are soothed.
This tree is not only a tree.
It is where everything started.
It is the tree of nourishment."

#1. Big Tree Foot (Dai Shu Geok)

Yeah~ Snacks in BIG TREE FOOT!!!
Big Tree Foot started in the early 70s, a popular spot for quick, cheap and satisfying lunch among the locals, tourists and even the blue collars.

There will be many people crowded at a little stall during lunch hours, EVERYDAY!
During weekends or public holidays, the crowds can really menacing.
This always makes other customers hardly to go nearby or even find a suitable place.

There are varieties choices of freshly made “Yong Liu” or “Zhao Liu”, for example, turnip, bitter-gourd, lady fingers, green chili, eggplant, fried bean curd or bean curd skins, and so on. There are about more than 20 types, which are all homemade.
Big Tree Foot is popular because of their on-the-spot made “Zhao Liu”. The boss will keep on frying those freshly
prepared “Zhao Liu” to ensure their crispy and tasty.

The other reason is also because the meat of the fish they use is so fresh until people can describe it with "juicy" while biting it. Delicious and affordable, you cannot afford to miss out on these offerings. The price wise is simply cheap and affordable dining with a large portion. They go only RM0.60 each.

Besides that, the environment here is another credit. Pasir Pinji Big Tree Yong Tao Fu is actually located in a traditional hawker center under a few big trees. Wind breeze and tree shield is a perfect combination for relaxation in nature.

Address: 652, Jalan King, Pasir Pinji, 31650 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia. This is located   behind Tuck Kee Restaurant of Jalan Pasir Puteh and Jalan Raja Permaisuri Bainun (Jalan Kampar).
Telephone No: 6012-524 5408 (Rico)
Business Hours: 8.30am – 5.30pm *Except for Sunday (lunch hours only)

#2 Night Market (SPPK Garden)

Then, we reached our next destination, which is the night market at SPPK garden in Ipoh.
I think everyone familiar with night market. There is really a good place for us to enjoy many tasty snacks.
Firstly, our targeted snack here is something smelly and stinky. Yeah! It is stinky tofu or some people call it “Chou Dou Fu”.

Many people will run away from any first sign of smelly stuff on the streets including us!
However, there are really many people crowded at the small stinky tofu stall. Is it really tasty? But it’s really smelly! If it’s smelly, why would I even put it into mouth? We were struggling for almost an hour. Finally, we decided to have a try. Luckily we tried it! If not, we will miss this tasty and special snack!

Well, we just realize that sometimes, we shouldn’t be deceived by its look and in this case its smell.
There are 2 styles, which is Taiwanese style and Hong Kong style.
You will get different preserved vegetables with different styles along with some special sauces which is homemade too.

There are 2 types of sources! One for vegetarians whiles the other one for non-vegetarians.
Hong Kong style stinky tofu is a bit larger (square) but less crunchy. Its appetizer is marinated cucumber.
Taiwanese style stinky tofu is a bit smaller (triangle), it’s really very crunchy. Its appetizer is pickled kimchi. Eat the tofu with the sauce provided, you won’t feel it’s stinky at all!

Don’t let your nose fool you!
This stall is the first stall that sells stinky tofu at Ipoh. The boss had sold it for almost 13 years in different night markets.
He was a chef at Taiwan before. As he wanted to come back Malaysia, so, he wished to bring something special from Taiwan. Thus, he brought in stinky tofu to Ipoh from Taiwan. Is it inconceivable?

Business Hours: 6pm-10pm
Price: RM3.00 with 6-7pieces

Besides that, we also found ‘Chu Chor Udang’ in the night market which is very well known.
The stall is called J.Keong Kee by the boss and he had been started this business since 18 years ago.

The boss sells few snacks there, and we strongly recommend the ‘Chu Chor Udang’!
Once you order this snack, the boss will fry in on the spot.
He will put a big prawn on top and fry together.
Sweet-smelling will be spread through whole night market.

Thus, it’s really very crispy and tasty!
No people can withstand it.
You all really should come and consume immediately to feel the crispy and aroma ‘Chu Chor Udang’!
We all feel that such a good snack if sell in restaurant will attract more customers. But why the boss just sells it at night market?

Actually the boss has his own career, this is just his sub-career. He work so hard, after finish his work, then have to start his business at night market every day. Maybe many people will think that he just works for money. But, the boss sell this is also because there are really many people attracted by the snacks. He doesn’t wish us disappointed and thus, keep on selling this till now.

 Tell you all secretly!
Hochak, the local TV show had interviewed it before! The snack also reported at 2 other food magazines also.
Not only selling a snack at night market for almost 18 years, but also reported by others before. Don’t you feel that should be a super delicious snack?

Business Hours: 6pm-10pm
Price: RM0.70 per piece

#3. Canning Garden
Murtabak is kind of Malay snack. There are many murtabak selling at Ipoh but we choose to introduce this, do you know why? Haha!! Let us introduce it to you all now!
This murtabak is in mini size which is different from others, which so called
Mini Murtabak.

There are 3 flavors which are chicken, beef and sardine. The boss is Malay. Her father started this business 10 years before.

Last time, they drove a small van, went around Ipoh areas, and sold their mini murtabak.
Since the van was not functioning, thus, they decided to sell it at the place where the van spoiled at, which is in the canning garden.

Business Hours: 11am-7pm *Off during Hari Raya
Location: No. 124, Jalan Wira Jaya, Taman Ipoh Jaya Timur, 31350 Ipoh, Perak.(Canning garden, near 4D, opposite CIMB Bank, Hoi Seng.)
Telephone No:  012-5554014/0179797600
Email address: khaizam_zamado09@yahoo.com.
Price: RM0.80

#4 Restaurant Yee Lock

Yeah! Finally, our BBQ chicken wings turned.
I think everyone familiar with it. But why we still want to introduce to you all? Of course it is tasty and special!
This is the oldest BBQ chicken wings that sold at Ipoh. There is
almost 30 years history! What a long history.

The boss has used up to 10 ingredients for the chicken wings such as white spirit, maltose, honey and other secret recipe. They are mixing with the chicken wings then pickled for 4 to 5 hours.

The chicken wings are really crispy, tasty. While we bite it, the feel is really cannot describe easily just use by a word.

The boss is using charcoal, the most traditional method to roast the chicken wings.

The chicken wings really look attractive and nice! This is because the boss had used vegetable oil for the outer skin of the chicken wings. That’s why we are attracted by it!

Business Hours: Everyday 6pm-11.30pm *Will off while the restaurant off.
Location: Restaurant Yee Lock
Price: RM 2.20 per piece of chicken wing
Rm5.50 for whole leg

~Part of the secret of success life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside~Mark Twain

Stay turned for our last post ya!!!!
And lastly, wish you all have a nice Hari Raya Puasa~
Have a nice day^^ Selamat Hari Raya

Dear Hunters,

This is my second visit to the blog and I have seen a few changes; this shows all of you took the comments into considerations seriously. I love the background music; very relaxed. I miss the old font and blog-skin though.

I would suggest the Hunters to:
1) Share with readers the ingredients needed for individual dish.
2) Do a short interview with stall owner. (You may consider using video camera to record the process.)
3) Take a photo/ video on Hunter's reaction after taking the dish. Share the joy with all readers. I believe it will make this blog more interesting.

As above are some of my suggestions. Other than that, Food Hunters have done a great job. I will be waiting for the next post, and hope to see more in future.

Thanks & regards,
Regine Aleesya Goh

Oh btw, one thing i wan to say... the search bar... make it more obvious... at first i thought the 'link' is not working.

And i guess you can blend the 'Home' button with the background since you are at it, so it looks more as a whole design.

Keep it up. :)

Best regards,
David
